JOB TITLE
Youth Engagement and Recreation Worker
- Develop, facilitate, implement, and monitor a variety of recreational and skill-building activities designed to engage and support at-risk youth (ranging from ages 10-29).
- Develop programs that promote teamwork, leadership, confidence, and resilience.
- Lead and actively participate in daily activities, games, and skill-building workshops.
- Ensure programming is engaging, inclusive, and responsive to participants' needs.
- Provide positive social experiences, role modeling, mentorship, and opportunities for personal growth in a safe and inclusive environment.
- Support youth in setting and achieving personal development goals through recreation.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Address conflict resolution and behavioral challenges using positive reinforcement strategies.
- Build trusting relationships with youth by being approachable and supportive.
- Foster social connections among participants to create a sense of belonging.
- Encourage youth participation in decision-making about programming.
- Track attendance, participation, and engagement levels.
- Gather feedback from youth to improve and adapt programming.
- Provide reports on program impact, successes, and areas for growth.
- Work alongside community partners, volunteers, and staff to enhance programming.
- Connect youth to additional support services, programs, or opportunities when needed.
- Have a flexible schedule based on client and program needs
- To liaise with social agencies, families, and other persons or organizations as required
- To perform any other relevant tasks/projects as informed by the Program Coordinator of Youth Risk Prevention and Intervention Initiative, Clinical Manager, or Executive Director
- A High school diploma (or equivalent).
- Preference will be given to a candidate with some post-secondary education in recreation. Social work, child & youth care, education, or a related field.
- The ability to form positive relationships and an understanding of the particular problems of hard-to-reach youth is necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a multi-disciplinary team of service providers is an asset.
- Experience with youth engagement strategies, and in leading group activities, workshops, or skill-building sessions
- General understanding and working knowledge of Microsoftä Office software is required.
- Police Record Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening is required. NVCI, CPR, First Aid Certificate, immunization record, medical clearance, a valid Ontario Class "G" driver’s licence and access to a vehicle and Clean Driver’s Abstract is required prior working directly with clients.
- Will be expected to work irregular hours as required by client or program needs, which include weekends and evenings.
